What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, evidence-based therapy that views the mind as made up of different “parts.”
These parts may carry pain, protection strategies, or difficult emotions, but at the core, everyone has a Self that is calm, curious, and capable of healing. IFS helps people build a healthy relationship with their inner parts so they can reduce internal conflict and find greater balance.
Who is IFS For?
IFS can help with:
-
Anxiety and depression
-
Self-criticism or low self-esteem
-
Difficult emotions like shame, anger, or fear
-
Burnout or feeling “stuck”
-
Coping with past abuse or neglect
How IFS Works
In IFS, your therapist guides you to:
-
Identify different “parts” of yourself (such as a critical part, a protective part, or a wounded part)
-
Understand the role those parts play in keeping you safe or managing pain
-
Develop compassion for each part instead of rejecting or fighting it
-
Access your core Self: the calm, wise inner resource that can guide healing
-
Support parts to release burdens and take on healthier roles
